UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP focuses on gender equality and women’s empowerment not only as human rights, but also because they are a pathway to achieving the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development. To achieve these goals, UNDP works at the global, regional, and national levels to integrate gender equality and women’s empowerment across the interrelated areas of poverty, growth, governance, energy and environment. In addition, UNDP is the lead UN agency on gender and climate change. As part of these efforts, UNDP works with GGCA partners to help ensure that adaptation and mitigation policies and programmes are informed by the concerns and contributions of women and men. UNDP also leads GGCA efforts to ensure that public and private finance mechanisms respond equitably to the needs of poor women and men.
